FAQ’s I Get as a Vegan

As a vegan, I am asked A LOT of questions regarding my nutrition and workout habits. Many people have misconceptions when it comes to a “vegan lifestyle” and my first thought when answering questions is circled around opening their perspectives on why a plant based diet is the healthier option.

How was your transition from being a meat eater to vegan?

First I became vegetarian then vegan.  It was hard at first but I just slowly started eliminating foods, one thing at a time.

After becoming vegan, what was the biggest change you noticed?

My energy level increased, didn’t get sick, I became leaner and my workouts were more intense.  My strength increased a ton as well.

How many meals do you eat per day?

6 to 9 meals

Where do you get your protein?

Tofu, beans, nuts, seeds, grains, veggies, fruit, chlorella, spirulina, and  powerootz protein shake

What is your favorite source of protein?

Legumes and Tofu

What is your pre workout meal?

Quinoa with peanut butter, banana, hemp, chia and cinnamon

What is your post workout meal?

Powerootz protein shake with unsweetened almond milk and ice

Do you count macros?

I don’t count macros I count nutrients.  I know all the food I eat is “REAL” and  very nutrient dense.  It gives me all the energy I need.

How many grams of protein do you eat a day?

About 100

How many carbs do you eat a day?

I don’t really watch my carb intake but it’s typically around 200-300

What kind of protein do you drink?

Powerootz

Do you take supplements?

BCAA’S, Powerootz, spirulina, chlorella, chlorophyll, Garden of Life Raw Green Superfood and B12.

How many hours a day do you workout?

2 to 3

How many days a week do you lift?

Everyday

Do you do more free weights/bodyweight/machine?

I do mostly free weights, body weight and cable/free motion.  I will do some machine work

What is a typical lifting session like?

I focus on one body part a day, anywhere from 1 to 2 hours

How much cardio do you do?

5 days a week

What type of cardio do you do?

I sprint a lot, usually hill running.  I love to be outdoors.  I also love to box, hitting the heavy bag and skipping rope.

How many rest days do you have a week?

I only take a rest day when I really feel like I need one.  I will train 10 plus days in a row then take a day off.  If my body needs more time then I will take it.  I never designate one day off a week,  I  just listen to my body.

Is there any other type of workouts you do other than being in the gym?

I love to hike with my 4 rescue chihuahuas
